In April 2024, the U.S. Dept. of Labor increased the minimum salary to be exempt from federal overtime requirements to $43,888 per year, or $844 per week.   This does not affect CA exemption minimum salary requirements, which currently are much higher than the federal minimum. 

Also in April 2024, the Federal Trade Commission banned non-compete agreements for all workers, though allowed existing non-compete agreements with senior executives to remain enforceable.  This does not affect CA law banning non-compete agreements for all workers, which has been in effect in CA for decades.  Under both CA and federal law, non-compete agreements are permitted in the context of the sale of a business or equity of a business.
