This presentation will educate attendees on the various leaves of absences under state and federal law, guidance on drafting of various leave of absence policies, specific updates required by caselaw and legislation recently passed and how to manage leaves of absence. Attendees will also learn best practices on how to handle difficult long-term and intermittent leaves of absences. The presentation will have practical lessons on content for letters used in the interactive process and in providing reasonable accommodations to employees.

Lonnie Giamela has spent almost two decades representing employers across the country in various labor and employment law matters. He has presented more than 350 presentations on various HR topics to employer groups and has represented clients in all state and federal courts in California including, but not limited to, the California Supreme Court. Lonnie brings a unique perspective to his presentations both through his professional experiences as a trial attorney, his two decades of providing preventative advice to employers and being a third-generation owner of family restaurants across Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
