When a CA employer receives an out of state court order to garnish an employee’s wages, the order should not be ignored. It still will be enforceable against the CA employer if there is jurisdiction over the employer in the state that issued the order. How do you know for sure if there’s jurisdiction in that other state? You can’t, without litigating the issue, which costs money and takes time. So it’s best to comply with the order, giving the employee notice you’re doing so, so that the employee can litigate the issue of the employee cares to do so.
