SB294 was passed by the California legislature and signed by the Governor in October 2025. This law is known as the Workplace Know Your Rights Act. The law requires employers to allow employees to designate an emergency contact by March 30, 2026. There is no particular written form that is required for this, so long as it is done in writing. Some HR organizations, such as the CA Chamber of Commerce, have created forms for this, or you can create your own.
